Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo caracterizar química, mineralógica e fisicamente uma escória de alto forno resfriada lentamente. Para isso foram realizados os ensaios de massa específica e unitária, índice de vazios, bem como a caracterização química e mineralógica da escória de alto forno (EAF) da Siderúrgica Norte Brasil S.A. Os resultados mostraram que a EAF possui uma massa específica semelhante ao dos cimentos devido em especial a sua composição química e mineralógica. Da mesma forma a EAF apresentou predominância de óxidos de silício (SiO2), cálcio (CaO) e alumínio (Al2O3), bem como em sua mineralogia predominância de quartzo, calcita e hematita. Além disso a EAF apresenta-se como um material inerte, podendo ser utilizado dessa forma, como material suplementar ao agregado natural para a produção de concretos e argamassas.
